Charles A. Shibell(August 14, 1841 - October 21, 1908)
Charles began ranching near Sonoita, AZ and lost a number of stock to the indians. During this time period, he was also engaged in mining and some freighting. Later, he was a customs inspector at El Paso, TX. In 1875 Shibell was appointed deputy Sheriff of Pima County, then elected Sheriff from 1876 to 1880. On July 27, 1880, Shibell appointed Wyatt Earp deputy Sheriff in Pima County. During this period of time Tombstone, AZ was in Pima County. He ran and owned the Palace and Occidental Hotels in Tucson, served again as deputy Sheriff and recorder for Pima County. Charles Shibell is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson, AZ.
