In the book The Rise and Fall of the Sundance Kid by Ed Kirby, the claim is made that
Harry Longabaugh, the Sundance Kid, was not killed in South America, but returned and lived
under the name Hiram Bebee.

- A biography which adds family history and papers. This is a personal look at Harry Longabaugh
- Digging up Butch and Sundance by Anne Meadows and Dan Buck
- This book is mostly a travelogue during an expedition to San Vicente, Bolivia to find the grave of the bandidos killed there. The bandidos are believed to have been Butch and Sundance. They were not able to find the bodies (for DNA analysis), but it a very readable book with some good historical information.
- The Rise and Fall of the Sundance Kid by Ed Kirby
- This is the book mentioned above stating that Harry Longabaugh returned to the United States
and lived his life as Hiram Bebee.
Most historians do not believe the conclusions drawn by Ed Kirby. Also, recent information has determined that Ed Kirby is probably wrong.
Since an expedition to South America by Anne Meadows and Dan Buck to find the bodies of the two bandidos killed in Bolivia was inconclusive, the question of whether Butch Cassidy and/or the Sundance Kid returned to the United States, has never been answered.
