where the wild west comes alive
Joseph Slade(1829 - March 10, 1864)
As superintendent in Julesburg, Colorado, he was ruthless is his pursuit and treatment of stage coach robbers and horse thieves. Jack had these people executed or hanged them on the spot. I put Jack Slade in the gunfighter category because when Jack was sober he was personable, but when drunk he was dangerous. This appears to be a characteristic for many gunfighters. It was because of repeated menacing activities while drunk in Virginia City, Montana that he was hanged by the Vigilantes in that town. Jack Slade is buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah in Block B, Lot 6, Grave 7.
